Abstract

In this study a biologícal títration method was used in arder to detect PSP (paralytic shellfish poisoning) toxins in bivalves collected in the coastal region of Ceará State (Brazil). Extracts were prepared from the edible parts of the following four species: itã = Iphigenia brasiliana; unha-de-velho = Tagellus plebeus; picholeta (jamily Unionidae); e sururu = Mytella guyanensis. These extracts were injected intraperitoneally in a number of laboratory mice (Mus musculus). The míce submítted to those treatments presented a relatívely hígh survíval rate.
