Ensino/Aprendizagem de Língua Estrangeira: Abordagem Comunicativa e Teoria da Relevância

Abstract

The relevance theory, frequently applied in translation studies, is characterized by the study of aspects related to human communication. From the analysis of some principles of this theory it is possible to notice that it comprises a wide range of matters and that it may be, then, related to a variety of communicative phenomenon. In this sense, this study will try to relate some elements of the relevance theory, found in the studies of Gutt (2000) and Wilson & Sperber (2004), to some principles of the communicative approach for foreign language teaching and learning, described by Larsen-Freeman (1986). From the approximation of these two theories, it was possible to get to some conclusions: one of them is that some aspects of the relevance theory have close relation to some principles of the communicative approach, for foreign language teaching and learning, and that it is possible to relate this theory to other communicative phenomenon about foreign language teaching and learning, so that it can contribute to the elucidation of the theme.
