Abstract

This paper aims to discuss features and possibilities of readings of the middle voice and its extent as Latin deponent verb. From contributions of Suzanne Kemmer (1993) and Rutger Allan (2002), both seated on Givón’s postulates, we will see that the complexity of the matter – somehow looked down up by the traditional grammars of the classical languages – be will better comprehended when we perceive that syntax, semantic and pragmatic concur to the efficiency of the employment and understanding of the language, and when we classify middle voice or deponent verb not from generalized definitions, rather from affluence of the mentioned matters, regarding as middle voice or deponent verb can be comprehended practically, with the experience of life. At last, we will intend establish dialogues, for that matter, between Latin and Portuguese language.
