Os diferentes critérios utilizados para classificação de palavras nas gramáticas tradicionais

Abstract

This paper aims at the criteria applied in grammars in order to classify the words and to discuss the pertinence of such criteria. In the word classification, it is necessary to apply criteria that contemplate the threefold aspects meaning, syntactic function and morphosyntactic behavior. In order to achie ve such aim, the classificatory criteria used by Perini (1996), Camara (1982), Neves (2006) and Mosânio & Lima (2003) were analyzed. In a bibliographic and exploratory research, the ten grammatical word classes were extracted out of four traditional grammars of the Portuguese language. As a result, a graph displays an heterogeneous application of the criteria and the predominance of the semantic criteria over the others.
