Abstract

This article proposes a reflection on the intrinsic complexity of cultural transfer processes, with an emphasis on the role of the mediator - the translator - and the procedures adopted when engaging with the literary object, in this case, poetry. Drawing on Michel Espagne's theories in Les transferts culturels franco-allemands (1999), it explores the characteristic features of migration and acclimatization – resemantization - of the artistic object, which, in this study, is the poem Le Bateau Ivre by Arthur Rimbaud, written in 1871. By analyzing the paratexts related to the translation procedures of Jayro Schmidt and Ivo Barroso, and through an observation of the process preceding the production of the final product presented to the reader, it was possible to identify the processes and methodologies that transform and generate the acclimatized object, considering its spatial and temporal conditions of production and transfer. The issue of translation, in its multiplicity as a phenomenon of transfer, was examined beyond the formal and lexical aspects of translation, revealing the complexities inherent to the translational process and the figure of the translator.
