Currently, group dynamics techniques are mediated by psychologists, coaches, and trainers and are employed as part of selections, training, personal growth experiences, lectures, and in school and academic environments. We understand that, by engaging, the faces of the participants are at potential risk, largely due to the design of the techniques themselves. This research sought, based on the studies of Goffman (1967; 1973), Brown and Levinson (1987), Culpeper (2014; 2021), and Paiva (2024), to describe the potential risks to the faces of participants in group dynamics. For this, we conducted exploratory and descriptive research, in which we analyzed the role and play group dynamics technique for the classroom. The motivation for this choice was due to three factors: the use of such a technique in the educational field; the objectives of integration and facilitation of knowledge; the politeness characteristics present in the composition of the procedures. The results showed that the directive nature of the technique and the perlocutionary nature of the procedures necessary for successful execution entail a high degree of imposition, increasing the potential risk of face loss for participants. Therefore, it is up to the facilitator and the group to mitigate the acts with adaptations and expressions of empathy and solidarity towards the group.
