Abstract

The productive chain of the octopus pot fi shery in Sao Paulo State began in response to the international market demand developed as of 2003. This paper reports the results of its evaluation since the year 2001, when octopuses were caught only by the trawl fi sheries, and between November, 2005 and October, 2007 through interviews with representatives of all elements of the production chain. Data from The Brazilian international octopus trade allowed the evaluation of the main import enterprises along this period. Sao Paulo State has shown the highest contribution for Brazilian octopus exports (47.59%), having the European market as its main outlet.
