Literatura e psicanálise: fascínio e horror em “A amiga genial” de Elena Ferrante
Abstract
In this article, we seek to understand, on the border between psychoanalysis and literature, the relationship between fascination and horror through three perspectives of the novel My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante. The first perspective is the friendship between the two protagonists, Elena and Lila, which constitutes the central theme of the narrative. The second perspective is the smarginatura, a neologism created by the character Lila to name the feeling of dissolution of the margins. The third, finally, is the formless, represented by the character Dom Achille, who is considered responsible for the disappearance of the girls' dolls. In dialogue with Freud's essay, The Uncanny, we will discuss the issues of the double and of the unheimlich raised by this friendship. This interlocution allows us to perceive, from a new angle, the intimate relationship between fascination and horror arised from the three perspectives. We will show how fascination and horror pose a question, which runs through the novel, about the distance between the self and the other based on the constant risk of dissolution of this interval.
