Abstract

This article investigates the stylistic and assertive variations of the voices over in Vladimir Carvalho' documentary O País de São Saruê (1971/2004). Taking as a reference the mode of internal film analysis proposed by Aumont and Marie (2009), as well as the studies by Renan Paiva Chaves (2015/2019) on the use of voice over in the classic documentary, we seek to understand the commentary in O País de São Saruê, identifying the various ways in which he presents himself, and how he relates with the images in the sense of seeking an alterity, identifying himself with the other. The results of the study show that there is a narrative polyphony that collaborates with the non-typification of the Northeastern subject, making the Northeastern oral culture as a whole emerge in the documentary, with songs, poetry and tunes that dialogue with the images, without neglecting the informational function. and educational voice over.
