Comunicar a memória e a identidade nos territórios da cidade

por uma narrativa das migrações históricas em Santos/SP

Abstract

This study focuses on one of the evidences of the historical process that led the city of Santos, located on the coast of São Paulo, to configure itself as a multicultural territory: the immigrant associations, in the second half of the 19th century. It is based on the documentary research in primary and secondary sources to verify that the communicational bonds established by subjects of different nationalities enabled not only the affirmation of their collective memories and identities, but also the foundation, in Santos soil, of associative institutions. Some of these associations cross and still survive time, narrating one of the chapters of the spatial and demographic, multicultural formation of this city.
