Analysis of the construction [Vndo SN]conect with verbs of movement as a cohesive resource

The present work, based on the idea of connective gerund, sought to analyze the construction [Vndo SN]conect, with Vndo being filled with the verbs of movement leaving, following and arriving and SN filled, among other things, by phoric elements such as the pronouns esse(a), desse(a), deste(a), deste(a), isso and disto. In this sense, based on a qualitative-quantitative research, which was carried out using data extracted from "Português Now”, it was found that [Vndo SN]conect can be used as a cohesive resource and, as such, can perform a hybrid cohesive function (referential and sequential) and have semantic values similar to those of prototypical cohesive features (conclusive, causal-consecutive etc.). The referential function performed is the result of an anaphoric encapsulation process carried out by the SN fillers. The sequential function, on the other hand, is reinforced by the verb in the gerundtive form. In addition, using Use-Centered Functional Linguistics, the possible cognitive motivation for the choices of verbs that make up [Vndo SN]conect was scored and, based on Traugott and Trousdale (2021), the properties (schematicity, compositional, and productivity) of this construction were explored.
