Metaforic constructions in the speech of Dilma Rousseff: analysis by the argumentation theory on the language

Abstract

We seek to articulate a socio-cognitive perspective metaphoricity based on epistemological elements of Conceptual Metaphor Theory and theorizing discursive approaches to metaphor, with analytical assumptions and categories of the Theory of Argumentation in Language. From this link, our goal is to identify and analyze the argumentative orientation of metaphoric constructions in the speech of Dilma Rousseff. Our analyzes are designed to contribute to the disclosure, data in focus, that metaphoricity and argumentation are inherent in language, as well as the literal/ metaphorical dichotomy does not hold water when considering the use of language. We conclude the possibility of combining both theoretical perspectives for understanding two human cognitive principles, argumentativity and metaphoricity.
