        Abstract

The Down syndrome (DS) is a genetic condition that causes several changes in the child’s language development. About language, it is important to consider its multimodal nature, taking it as a linguistic envelope (ÁVILA-NÓBREGA, 2018) made up of gestures, speechs and looks. Thus, it is fundamental to observe how the multimodal linguistic envelope emerges and is mobilized by the child with DS in different contexts. This work had the objective of analyzing the emergence of gesture of pointing in children with DS in contexts of clinical care. This study was developed at the Clinical School of Speech, Language and Hearing Therapy of a higher education institution of Paraíba, based on the registry of the speech-language therapeutic care of two dyads: intern and child with DS. Data were registred qualitatively in the ELAN - EUDICO Linguistic Annotator program. It was observed that the gesture of pointing emerged frequently in the children’s multimodal linguistic envelope, facilitating their interaction with the interns, as well as in the joint attention and reference.
