SERRA DA CAPIVARA/PI NATIONAL PARK AND THE PRACTICE OF ECOTOURIST ACTIVITY

Abstract

Ecotourism faces the challenge of balancing environmental and cultural preservation with sustainable development and local income generation. Since the Stockholm Conference in 1972, environmental conservation has gained relevance on government schedule. The establishment of Conservation Units (CUs) has led to the implementation of administrative and political mechanisms to safeguard specific ecosystems. These spaces not only protect the environment but also enable indirect use through tourism, with an emphasis on ecotourism. This study aims to evaluate whether the ecotourism practices adopted in the Serra da Capivara National Park (PNSC), located in Piauí, align with the theoretical framework that underpins this tourism segment. Using a Case Study methodology, which includes visits to PNSC, literature review, and photographic documentation, it was found that this Integral Conservation Unit is in line with the guidelines advocated by ecotourism.

  • Juliana Ramalho Barros, Federal University of Goiás, Goiânia (GO), Brazil

    PHd in Geography from the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho, campus of Rio Claro - SP. She is currently an associate professor at the Federal University of Goiás, where she founded the Laboratory of Geographical Climatology of the Institute of Socio-Environmental Studies and has already exercised the functions of Coordinator of the graduation course in Geography and Deputy Director of the Institute. Coordinates the Laboratory of Geography, Imagination, Creativity and Art - LAGICRIARTE. He has experience in Geographic Climatology and Health Geography, working mainly on the following topics: regional studies, teaching climatology, environmental health and creative learning. It is accredited in the Graduate Program in Geography at UFG - Goiânia, with master's and doctoral guidance. Conducts research on innovation in science teaching; led agreements between UFG, California State University Northridge and the University of Massachussets - UMass Amresth; established a research cooperation agreement between the UFG and the National University of the Czech Republic; currently coordinates a project on practices for teaching climatology and its school contents, financed by CNPq, in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology - MIT MediaLab.

     

     

     

  • Paulo Roberto Ferreira de Aguiar Junior, Federal University of Goiás, Goiânia (GO), Brazil

    Specialist in Environmental Education from the Federal University of Goiás (2010). Graduated in Geography from the same University in 2016 and in the process of a PhD from the same institution. I was a PIBIC scholarship holder (2014) in the area of ​​Geography epistemology. Since 2015, I have been working as a volunteer in the Methodological Proposals for Climate Teaching project in the state of Goiás, having participated in the Lemann Creative Learning Institute, in January 2016, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I am also a collaborator at LAGICRIARTE (Geography, Imagination, Creativity and Art Laboratory).

    Master's student in the Postgraduate Program in Geography at the Institute of Socio-Environmental Studies, at the Federal University of Goiás (PPGeo/IESA/UFG) with active participation between 2021 and 2023 in the groups: Studies and research in Digital Technologies and teacher training (GEPETEC/ UNIRIO); Education and City Studies and Research Center (NUPEC); Center for Teaching and Research in Geographic Education (NEPEG); and the Health Geography group. Currently an active participant in the study and research group on spatial analysis in health (GEOPAS).

  • Nicali Bleyer Ferreira dos Santos, Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás, Goiânia (GO), Brazil

    PHd multidisciplinary  in Environmental Sciences from the Federal University of Goiás. of Geography at the Federal University of Goiás, and currently works as an autonomous consultant in the area of ​​environmental licensing and urban planning. She is Assistant Professor I at the Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás - PUC - GO, academic and scientific coordinator of the Instituto do Trópico Subúmido ITS and member of the Research Advisory Committee. She served as Coordinator of Management of Educational Processes of the Institutional Program for Teaching Initiation Scholarships - PIBID and was advisor to the Dean of Extension and Student Support at the same institution.
