Abstract

The article discusses comparative representations of the forest in film productions. The idea is to explore some symbolisms associated to forest space as landscape in cinema - notions of sacred environment, or of a "pure nature" opposite to the western idea of civilization, ultimately idealization of a paradise. Or in the opposite way, the forest as a place of unknown and threatening forces, scope of a logic that cannot be controlled by human rationality and its technologies, or even the forest thought as an environment capable of releasing potentialities and primitive forces that escape a rational ordering. As a theoretical contribution, we will use notes from Cosgrove (2008), Nancy (2005), Schama (1996) and Lefebvre (2011).
