Ethics, Plagiarism, and the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policies
Passagens maintains a rigorous commitment to academic and scientific integrity. We adopt as a parameter the Ordinance No. 39/PRPPG/UFC, of October 01, 2025, from the Pro-Rectory of Research and Graduate Studies. UFC uses the Turnitin system for plagiarism detection and establishes the following guidelines regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence:
I – Transparência;
II – Autoria humana;
III – Privacidade, segurança e confidencialidade;
IV – Integridade acadêmica;
V – Justiça e não discriminação;
VI – Responsabilidade pelo conteúdo;
VII – Uso eticamente orientado;
VIII – Implantação Segura.
I – gerar conteúdo original, interpretações ou análises críticas;
II – redigir seções substantivas do trabalho (métodos inéditos, testagens, resultados,
discussão e conclusões);
III – fabricar, alterar, manipular ou “embelezar” dados, resultados, imagens ou gráficos;
IV – inserir referências não verificadas ou mascarar plágio;
V – produzir material não declarado em desacordo com as normas desta Portaria.
In addition to these terms, we encourage authors to consult the standards of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Authors' Responsibility
The content of signed articles is the absolute responsibility of their authors and does not necessarily express the opinion of the Editorial Board members of Passagens Journal. The person responsible for the submission guarantees that the submitted text is a product of their own intellectual authorship and commits to giving due credit to data when these are the result of other investigations and to bibliographic references. It is recommended to avoid the reproduction of tables, charts, drawings, or images. When such elements are submitted the authors must have previously obtained permission from those who hold the copyrights.
Reviewers' Responsibility
Reviewers must notify editors if they find any ethical issues in the texts they are reviewing such as plagiarism or works already submitted to other journals. The evaluation should be based solely on the quality of the scientific content considering the originality and importance of the study for the communication field. It is essential that the reasons for accepting or rejecting a work are explained clearly, politely, and with good arguments. If a reviewer feels they cannot be impartial or if any reason prevents a fair analysis they must inform the editorial team so the review request can be canceled without any penalty. Likewise if a reviewer cannot meet deadlines or perform the evaluation they must communicate this to the editors so the journal can organize the publication flow without delays.
Editors' Responsibility
All received texts undergo a verification process to ensure they meet the submission guidelines and follow the journal template. After this stage they pass through plagiarism detection software because UFC has used Turnitin since 2024 and the journal began using it in 2026 after resolving technical issues before being sent to reviewers. If cases of plagiarism or improper use of the author own work without proper citation or self plagiarism are found the work will not be accepted by the journal. If a work has already been published and plagiarism is confirmed it will be retracted. If there are suspicions of serious errors or misconduct such as the creation of false data the editorial team will seek explanations and may cancel the submission. Reviewers are chosen based on their expertise to avoid any bias or conflict of interest ensuring the selection is based solely on scientific merit. The journal keeps the names of authors and reviewers confidential to ensure a fair and honest process. Once a text is accepted for evaluation we strive to organize the editorial work in the best possible way treating everyone equally and providing updates to the authors on the process. If a published article receives a report of an error or ethical misconduct the journal committee will conduct an investigation with the author and if the report is true it may correct or even remove the text from the site.
