Call for Papers: Contracolonialismo e Comunicação

2023-08-21

In the last decades, in alignment with post-colonial ideas, there has been a rise in exploring counter-colonial forms/thoughts/theories, whether in the field of communication or in various other domains.

In Brazil, the living thoughts of quilombolas, indigenous peoples, and populations who, contrary to hegemonic theories (notably Eurocentric), engage in dialogue between their ancestral knowledge and the knowledge originating from academic and institutional centers, point us towards other forms of knowledge apprehension.

The present dossier, "Counter-Colonialism and Communication", emerges with the proposal of engaging in a dialogue between counter-colonial theories, the algorithmic era of information, and its implications in the contemporary world, at a moment when epistemological categories are being revised, when Artificial Intelligence (AI) guides debates on ethics and freedom. How can we develop research and communication of global scope with a counter-colonial bias and, at the same time, be in tune with the latest technological advances?

In an effort to gather studies on the confluence of this matter and the production of knowledge in the communicational field and other scientific areas, Revista Passagens opens a call for contributions on the current crossroad in which we find ourselves: digital colonialism.

We have as context a world where operators of technologies (whether communicational, gender-related, or social, among others) constantly update their strategies of dominance. How can the subjectivities situated at the margins of these technologies show us solutions and new issues in the face of this Algorithmic Era? What epistemic alternatives and strategies of confrontation can be addressed in the present-day Brazilian and global context?

Topics of interest:

Colonialism and Counter-Colonialism

Intercultural Practices in the Counter-Colonial Context

Borders: Subjectivities and Deviant Becomings in the Algorithmic Era

Regimes of Knowledge: Education, Communication, and Legitimation of Knowledges

People of the Forests, People of the Streets: Knowledge of Indigenous Peoples, Terreiro Communities, and Their Intersections

Studies in communication, education, anthropology, and other knowledge fields can be submitted as long as they present bibliographies coherent with the themes brought up in this call. We value interworld dialogue (Oliveira et al., 2021), in a plural perspective that presents diverse voices.
