Resumen

This study was conducted using a qualitative approach. The objective was to analyze health care actions performed by Community Health Agents (CHA) in the city of Envira, in the Brazilian State of Amapá, with clients suffering from Arterial Hypertension (AH), analyzing their adhesion to the guidance provided and to the treatments recommended. Firstly, capacitation training was conducted by the nurse with the CHA about AH. Afterwards, the nurse made home visits to the clients assisted by the CHA to analyze the effect of the CHA’s work. It was concluded that the actions developed by the CHA with clients with AH promote health care in the prevention and treatment of the illness. The guidelines offered to the clients and their families regarding physical activity, reduction in the ingestion of sodium, reduction/ complete cessation of the ingestion of alcohol and tobacco demonstrated that the CHAs present adequate knowledge about hypertension and that they are individuals that stand very close to people, stimulating them to continue their treatments and orienting them promptly when necessary.
