The dialogue between the social sciences and education is present in several lineages and currents of analysis of the discipline. Our aim is to focus on texts that seek to identify the social dimension in the educational process. Not only the classics, but also the contemporaries, have a guiding thread in education for a precise analysis of the social fabric. Social relations are present in the educational field in both the formal and informal areas of education. From the most primary relationship, between the student and the teacher, to the role of institutions in the implementation of educational policies, they involve present and necessary discussion fans in the current situation. Our proposal in this dossier is to bring together works and research from the most diverse theoretical and methodological perspectives that promote the dialogue between the social sciences and education, whether in macro or micro-sociological nature, and that help to think about the contemporary scenario of inequalities in the country. In this sense, articles whose discussions and analyzes are guided by the social sciences will be welcome, thus considering their subjects and institutions, the perspective of inequalities in educational opportunities, in addition to the political and cultural dimensions of education from a sociological perspective.
