Abstract

In this article, Lucio Costilla writes on the publication of the new edition of the Prison Notes, in 2000, in Brazil, emphasizing the importance of Gramsci’s thought, as a theoretical reference, in the interpretation of politics and the current Latin-American state. In that perspective, he explains also the reasons that led him - during his presence as a visiting professor in the Graduate Program in Sociology at UFC (2002-2004) - to coordinate a special thematic issue of the Revista de Ciências Sociais (The Journal of Social Sciences).
