This study has two main objectives: (1) to quantify the number of Qualis A journals in the field of Linguistics that state positions regarding the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools in scientific production, between September 1st and 6th, 2025, and (2) to analyze the nature of these positions concerning GenAI usage within the author guidelines provided by these journals. To achieve this, the study adopts the theoretical frameworks of academic literacies (Komesu; Fischer, 2014; Lea; Street, 1998), the "hidden" dimensions of academic writing (Street, 2010), and GenAI (Russell; Norvig, 2013; ANPD, 2024; UNESCO, 2024). This is a quantitative-qualitative study (Souza & Kerbauy, 2017), exploratory in nature (Gil, 2004), whose corpus consists of 27 journals in the field of Linguistics, classified as Qualis A in the 2017-2020 quadrennium, and selected through a search on the Sucupira Platform. The results, analyzed based on theoretical propositions regarding GenAI and academic literacies, indicate so far a predominance of non-positioning among the analyzed journals regarding the use of GenAI, suggesting a new "hidden" dimension of academic writing (Street, 2010). On the other hand, the stances favorable to the use of GenAI point to these tools as potential "friendly supports" for academic writing. Finally, it appears that positions regarding the (non-)use of GenAI in and for scientific production remain mostly tacit.
