Fábrica de Coringas: estratégias avaliativas na construção de sentido no texto jornalístico

Abstract

This work has as theoretical framework the Systemic-Functional Linguistics (HALLIDAY, 1985, 1989, 2014; FUZER; CABRAL, 2014), which sees language as a sociosemiotic system related to society; as well as (WHITE, 2004; MARTIN; WHITE, 2005) to refer to the Evaluation System and (ROSE; MARTIN, 2012) as a contribution to genre. Therefore, the main objective of this article is to verify how the Appraisal System (WHITE, 2004; MARTIN; WHITE, 2005) contributes to the construction of meanings in the opinion text entitled “Fábrica de Coringas” (SCHNEIDER, 2019). Thus, we aim at presenting, through the analysis of the author’s semantic discoursive choices, made by analogy with the stereotype of the character Joker, the government’s disregard for social issues that happened in Brazil. The methodology adopted for the analysis of the corpus is organized in the following steps: 1) segmentation of the text in stages, according to the guidelines of Rose and Martin (2012); 2) identification of the author’s evaluations with respect to the people and their rulers; 3) identification and classification of the occurrences of the Evaluative system based on the categories proposed by Martin and White (2005); 4) description of the realization of meanings in the text based on the use of resources available in semantics of the discourse; 5) verification of how the author makes linguistic choices in order to be aligned with the reader. The results revealed the predominance of appreciation resources by negative composition and valuation to configure the current social, economic and political situation in Brazil. Such values are intensified by the force-intensification grading subsystem.

Possui graduação em Letras - Língua Portuguesa e suas respectivas Literaturas pela Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (1998). Pós-Graduação em Psicopedagogia e Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação pela UFRGS (2017). Atualmente é professor - Secretaria de Educação do estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Tem experiência na área de Língua portuguesa. Mestrado em andamento pelo PPGL/UFSM. Com interesse em estudos na Linha de Pesquisa Linguagem no Contexto Social.
Tatiana Della Mea, UFSM

Possui graduação em Letras - Língua Portuguesa pela Universidade Franciscana (2001). Especialização em Informática Instrumental para Educação Básica. Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, UFRGS, Brasil. Professora da Educação Básica Pública Municipal. Atualmente é mestranda em letras PPGL- UFSM. Com interesse em estudos na Linha de Pesquisa Linguagem no Contexto Social.
Sara Regina Scotta Cabral, UFSM- Departamento de Letras Vernáculas/PPGL

Possui Mestrado (2002) e Doutorado em Letras pela Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (2007). Realizou pós-doutoramento na Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo, sob a supervisão da Profa. Dra. Leila Barbara, abordando os processos verbais no discurso jornalístico. Faz parte do Grupo do CNPq SAL (Sistêmica, Ambientes e Linguagens), da Linha de Pesquisa Linguagem no Contexto Social (UFSM) e do Grupo de Estudos em Linguística Funcional (UFOP). É membro a Associação de Linguística Sistêmico-Funcional da América Latina (ALSFAL). Atualmente é Professor Associado II da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, onde atua em cursos de graduação e de pós-graduação. Suas pesquisas envolvem Linguística Aplicada aos Estudos da Linguagem com foco em Língua Portuguesa na perspectiva da Linguística Sistêmico-Funcional e do Sistema de Avaliatividade, com especial atenção para o tratamento dos dados utilizando a Linguística de Corpus.
